Dr.Alex Otti went to Umunneochi, and Tears Flowed.

The saying that the Rich Also Cry, played out in its full compliment today at Umunneochi. The occasion was the commencement of Dr Alex Otti’s Local Government campaign rallies. It started with Umunneochi today.

The saying that the Rich Also Cry, played out in its full compliment today at Umunneochi. The occasion was the commencement of Dr Alex Otti’s Local Government campaign rallies. It started with Umunneochi today.

Coming from the Ngwa area of Abia state, where the people are comparatively poor, it was my belief that the northern axis of the state would fare better in the hands of various PDP Governments in the last 20 years. The journey to Umunneochi, on Otti’s campaign train proved me wrong. I saw ruin and decay everywhere, and it brought to the fore the monumental failure of various PDP administrations in the state in the last 20 years.

The campaign at Umunneochi today, literally started with lamentations and tears. The first shot was fired by Elder S.O. Onwudinjo, a pensionier who was clearly shaken by emotion and grief, leading to uncontrollable flow of tears. According to the elder, many of his pensioner colleagues have not been paid for 46 months, while some have not been paid for ever. In an emotion laden voice, the elder thanked God and his children, without. whom he would not be alive today.

Then came the Hausa Community in the area. Their spokesman told the huge crowd that gathered to welcome Dr Otti, that their vote was assured 100% for the APGA candidate. All they wanted in return was good roads, constant power supply and good schools where teachers are serious with their job.

The icing on the cake was at the palace of His Royal Majesty, Eze, Prof. S.I.Nwankwo, the Digbo 1 of Umuaku, Umunneochi LGA, where the traditional rulers (the Council or Ndi Eze),from the area, gathered to welcome Dr Otti.

In as much as I cannot claim here that I saw tear drops from the eyes of these great men, the outpouring of emotions and grief because of the type of leadership that Abia State has had over the years, especially the present clueless administration, was enough to draw a few tears, and believe me, they dropped.

To me, Umunneochi was a good specimen for a case study. The rot in Abia State is  general and complete. It is not localised. It is a complete testimony to the fact that there is no functional government in Umuahia. We have a group of leaders who see,and use our common patrimony and heritage as personal estate of enjoyment and ostentatious life style.

Dr Alex Chioma Otti, is now calling you out, the good people of Abia state. He is calling out all men and women of good will. He is calling you out all those who abhor and detest evil. The time to act in now.

I shudder to imagine a situation where we fail to wrench power this time around from this ruling cabal. The next four years under Governor Ikpeazu would be a time of unprecedented ruin and chaos.

And the PDP man who would replace him?…Tufiaakwa!!  God Forbid!!!
