Operatives of the Tactical Operation Unit of the Abia State Police Command have arrested four suspected car thieves and recovered one Toyota Sienna SUV with number plate HM 67 EKY from them.

A police source told Southern City News that the suspects were arrested following a complaint by their victim, whose car was snatched at gunpoint in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on December 26, 2018.

The complainant also said that the suspects took away his driving licence, permanent voter card and the sum of N25,000.

It was learnt that the first suspect, identified as Alegu Anaeto, was arrested by operatives from the Umuopara Police Station while on a stop and search duty after they intercepted the vehicle he was driving, which he could not give a satisfactory account of.

According to a police report, Anaeto’s confession at the command’s Anti-kidnapping Unit led to the arrest of his accomplices Daniel Omeh, 25; Peter Onuameme, 38; and Emeka Ibeh, 48.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

He said the suspects had confessed to the crime and made other revelations about their activities.

Ogbonna added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Chris Ezike, had directed the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Rivers State Police Command under whose jurisdiction the crime took place.
